![]() The ideas outlined in Newton’s laws of motion and universal gravitation stood unchallenged for nearly 220 years until Albert Einstein presented his theory of special relativity in 1905. The rise and fall of ocean water levels are created by the gravitational pull of the Moon as it orbits Earth. His theories also made it possible to explain and predict the tides. This force bends Earth’s path toward the Sun, pulling the planet into an elliptical (almost circular) orbit. Earth would move straight forward through the universe, but the Sun exerts a constant pull on our planet. Newton’s laws of motion and gravity explained Earth’s annual journey around the Sun. Objects far from the Sun won’t be influenced by its gravity. The strength of the force depends on the mass of the object: the Sun has more gravity than Earth, which in turn has more gravity than an apple. All matter exerts a force, which he called gravity, that pulls all other matter towards its center. Within the pages of Principia, Newton also presented his law of universal gravitation as a case study of his laws of motion. To every action there is always opposed an equal reaction: or the mutual actions of two bodies upon each other are always equal, and directed to contrary parts.Īs Newton himself described: “If you press a stone with your finger, the finger is also pressed by the stone.” Gravity The strength of the force (F) is defined by how much it changes the motion (acceleration, a) of an object with some mass (m). Newton’s second law is most recognizable in its mathematical form, the iconic equation: F=ma. The alteration of motion is ever proportional to the motive force impressed and is made in the direction of the right line in which that force is impressed. The law is regularly summed up in one word: inertia. In essence, a moving object won’t change speed or direction, nor will a still object start moving, unless some outside force acts on it. Every body perseveres in its state of rest, or of uniform motion in a right line, unless it is compelled to change that state by forces impressed theron. Newton outlined his laws in Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica (“Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy,”) published in 1687. By unifying all motion, Newton shifted the scientific perspective to a search for large, unifying patterns in nature. “To the same natural effects,” he wrote, “we must, as far as possible, assign the same causes.” Previous Aristotelian thinking, physicist Stephen Hawking has written, assigned different causes to different types of motion. Thinking on Kepler’s laws, Newton realized that all motion, whether it was the orbit of the Moon around the Earth or an apple falling from a tree, followed the same basic principles. ![]() ![]() ![]() If Kepler’s laws define the motion of the planets, Newton’s laws define motion. It was this law that inspired Newton, who came up with three laws of his own to explain why the planets move as they do. Kepler’s third law shows that there is a precise mathematical relationship between a planet’s distance from the Sun and the amount of time it takes revolve around the Sun. This discovery (which became Kepler’s second law of orbital motion) led to the realization of what became Kepler’s first law: that the planets move in an ellipse (a squashed circle) with the Sun at one focus point, offset from the center. For all these triangles to have the same area, the planet must move more quickly when it is near the Sun, but more slowly when it is farthest from the Sun. If you draw a triangle out from the Sun to a planet’s position at one point in time and its position at a fixed time later-say, 5 hours, or 2 days-the area of that triangle is always the same, anywhere in the orbit. For many years, he struggled to make Brahe’s observations of the motions of Mars match up with a circular orbit.Įventually, however, Kepler noticed that an imaginary line drawn from a planet to the Sun swept out an equal area of space in equal times, regardless of where the planet was in its orbit. Like many philosophers of his era, Kepler had a mystical belief that the circle was the Universe’s perfect shape, and that as a manifestation of Divine order, the planets’ orbits must be circular. ![]() ![]() The 10 times table is one of the easiest to learn. If you have any questions, comments or ideas for, please use our contact form. And it isn't only at school, but in your everyday life it is useful to know your times tables well so you can quickly work things out, for instance when you are buying or selling vegetables on the market. You don't see them as tables, but as part of bigger mathematical problems. Why do we put so much effort into learning tables? Well, the multiplication tables keep on coming up in the next primary school years and even when you're at secondary school. For instance with 4 x 7 you can do 5 x 7 first then subtract 1 x 7. If you do 5 x 7 first and then add 1 x 7 it is suddenly easier to answer. One example of this is 6 x 7, which is often said to be tricky. What also often helps is to use the tables you know well for answering the sums in the more difficult tables. Switching the multiplication sum around makes it easier to answer. For example 4 x 9 is easier to work out than 9 x 4. There are a few tricks which make it easier to learn the tables and continue to master them, such as putting the smallest number first, which makes it easier for many children to answer correctly. ![]() Not every child finds it easy to learn all the tables, so it is a good idea to keep on practicing them regularly after you learned them. The 6 times table, 7 times table, 8 times table, 9 times table, 11 times table, 12 times table and of course all the tables in random order are the next step. The 1 times table, 2 times table, 3 times table, 4 times table, 5 times table and 10 times table are the first times tables to be learned. Here you can find additional information about practicing multiplication tables at primary school. ![]() The game element in the times tables games make it even more fun learn. Learn the multiplication tables in an interactive way with the free math multiplication learning games for 2rd, 3th, 4th and 5th grade. For the big tables diploma you are given 40 questions which include all the tables from 1 to 12. Your little diploma shows you can do the 1,2,3,4,5 and 10 times tables. The little diploma is made up of 30 questions. On the tables diploma the questions are a bit quicker than on the speed test, but if you get all of them right you will get your tables diploma. The speed test is good practice for getting your tables diploma. This will help you learn all of your tables. If you make a mistake, you came see what the right answer is at the end of the test. Once you have got the hang of a number of tables you can select the speed test and choose the tables you want to practice getting quicker at. If you have forgotten any answers, just go back to the 'all tables in sequence' page and practice them again thoroughly before trying again. First you can practice the multiplication facts in sequence and once you have got the hang of that you can practice all the sums in random order for each table. Choose the table you want to practice from the following. ![]() ![]() ![]() There is a counter in performance monitor called "Processor Information(_Total)\% of Maximum Frequency". How do you know if this is happening? On a physical server the answer is easy. Even if you aren't using hardware based power management, just having the power plan set to the default "Balanced" can be enough to throttle the CPU power. You should allow the operating system to manage power and you should always use the "High performance" power plan in Windows. If hardware power management is an option, don't use it. For Exchange the guidance is straight forward. Now what if you were to find out that your 2.4GHz cores are only operating at 1.2GHz most of the time? That might make a difference in your reported CPU utilization. Everything looks great except the CPU utilization. You don't see any unusual client activity. You've ran the sizing numbers over and over and you should be closer to 55%. You have a server running at about 80% CPU throughout the work day consistently. So why is this a bad thing? Consider this. It saves power, lowers the electric bill, gives you a nice low carbon footprint, and makes vegetables taste good. On workstations and perhaps on certain servers this can be a good thing. Power management allows the hardware or the OS to, among other things, throttle power to the CPU and turn off an idle network card when it isn't in use. Power management sounds like a good thing, right? In many cases it is. I started losing count a while back of the number of high CPU cases I encountered that were caused by misconfigured power management. You can read more about the different versions of the. There is a moderate stretch in the toebox for accommodating foot types and overall feels wider than the "classic ASICS fit". Although thinned out, the upper is still robust and typical for a daily trainer (whereas the previous had more of a "premium" high cushion feel). The upper is still an engineered mesh, but it is thinned out throughout the forefoot as well as in the tongue. Nathan: The upper is one of the major updates to this shoe. For me I think the heel could still be secured a little bit better and the region between the tongue and toe box could be decreased in volume a little more. As long as you lace the shoe down snug like you should in most shoes the fit should be just fine. Because of the large toe spring the heel can almost feel like it lifts easier or slips a tiny bit, but this is not the case. The heel does have a semi rigid counter that is padded really well. The upper locks down really well through the midfoot and the heel. There is a toe guard that seems to maintain this volume throughout the forefoot. The fit throughout is normal width with a wider toebox in the forefoot. This worked really well for me and I feel it accommodates swelling really well. The upper feels like it has more volume to it with height and width especially in the forefoot. The mesh is a little thicker than the EvoRide and is definitely built for some longer runs and higher mileage efforts. Although at first glance it doesn't look like an overhaul of the original, the changes to the midsole and upper make the shoe run differently without losing its essence.ĭavid: The upper of the GlideRide 2 fits true to size in my normal 9.5. The GlideRide 2 is much more refined with a more stable platform (particularly in the heel) as well as a thinned out and more appropriate upper for the function of the shoe. Nathan: The GlideRide 2 carries through ASICS' GUIDESOLE technology which sports an aggressive forefoot rocker (toe spring) that was debuted in the original GlideRide. The ride provides a stable and engaging ride that is great for easy days and long runs. The GlideRide 2 differentiates itself from the EvoRide 2 in that it has more stack height and weight to it while still maintaining the light feel. The result is a really quick transition up front and a fun ride. The GUIDESOLE creates a platform with an excessive toe spring in the forefoot that creates a rolling effect through the forefoot and the toe off phases of gait. David: The ASICS GlideRide 2 continues to expand on the GUIDESOLE technology that ASICS debuted last year. ![]() ![]() Thanks very much to those that have tried Giggles, I really do appreciate all of your support and encouragement along the way.
